Credit One Bank Volunteers Spend Third Annual Service Day at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

LAS VEGAS (September 18, 2024) – Over 40 volunteers from Credit One Bank made the two-and-a-half-hour trek from Las Vegas on September 7th to lend a hand at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.
This year’s Best Friends Animal Sanctuary Service Day marked the third straight year that Credit One employees volunteered at the sanctuary, which, with over 1,300 dogs, cats, pigs, horses, rabbits, parrots, and other animals in residence, is one of the largest animal sanctuaries in the United States.
Best Friends Animal Society is a leading national animal welfare organization working to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters in 2025. It founded its animal sanctuary in 1984 on 2,200 acres in Angel Canyon, a red-rock canyon in Kanab, Utah. Today, at 6,000 acres, the sanctuary is one of the nation’s largest. It includes Dogtown, a section devoted to dogs, Cat World, which is dedicated to cats, the Bunny House, Horse Haven, and a quiet retreat for domestic birds. There is also an animal clinic providing on-site veterinary care for all the sanctuary’s animal residents.
Upon arrival at the sanctuary, the Credit One Bank volunteers split into groups. Half spent the morning touring the facility and getting to know sanctuary’s animal inhabitants while the others got to work pulling weeds, cleaning dog runs, hauling debris, clearing tumbleweeds and other critical tasks around the grounds. After a hearty vegan lunch, the groups switched places for the rest of the afternoon.
"Volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah was such a rewarding and unique experience,” said Credit One Bank’s Julio Gerardo. “Touring the large sanctuary and hearing its history over the past 40 years was fascinating. Helping out by picking weeds and cleaning the Shipley's lodges in Dogtown made me feel more connected to their incredible mission. I also learned that I kind of enjoy picking weeds — especially if it's for dogs."
